Learning Programs

For children aged 6 months to 6 years

Music

As well as being fun, music helps the body and mind work together and ignites all areas of child development. Weekly music classes for all our children develop motor, language and intellectual skills through this valuable creative experience.

Language

At Perry St we believe that exposure to languages boosts critical thinking, problem and listening skills as well as helping children embrace diversity. Our weekly language classes are fun and tailored to the individual children in the room.

Nature Play

We believe that nature is a powerful teacher; and so Perry St educators weave notions of sustainability and connectedness to the natural world through daily outdoor play in all three garden spaces (Hakea, Acacia/Waratah and Banksia Yards).

Sustainability

Perry Street is committed to sustainability and has policies and practices in place to actively reduce energy and waste and operate sustainably from using recycled products and sourcing produce from local businesses to minimising packaging and using
environmentally friendly
cleaning products.

STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) helps develop problem solving, language and critical thinking skills in young children and sets the foundation for future learning. STEM is woven into our curriculum, planning and daily activities. We regularly borrow resources from the Darebin toy van to expose children to a variety of stories, objects and materials.

Kitchen Garden

Our kitchen and food program is a beloved part of Perry St. Children are involved in all aspects of the program – from feeding and caring for the chickens, to planning harvesting, and preparing food together. The kitchen provides opportunities to explore sustainability, health, nutrition, diversity and cross cultural understanding.

Out and About

Perry St offers an excursion program that teaches children about the natural, urban and human community of which they are part. Local walking excursions to nearby places as well as a 'big' trip for our 4 Year Old Kinder children are examples of the Out and About program.

Inclusion Support

At Perry St we aim to ensure our environment is inclusive of all children. Our Inclusion Support Program assists education and care services to include children with additional needs alongside their peers. We strive to offer neuroaffirming practices at all times.

Reconciliation

Perry St acknowledges the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land. We provide a learning environment and program that honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as enduring, living cultures.
